Volunteers meet with the local Circles Coordinator for an informal meeting to look at their motivation for wanting to be involved and to allow them to ask any questions they have about Circles.
Volunteers attend the two day training event which has been designed to allow them to make an informed decision about the scheme. Circles staff will assess individuals’ suitability to undertake this work.
The Two-Day Training for Potential Volunteers will provide information on:
Being part of the Circles team
Criminal Justice responses to sexual abuse
Description of Circles
Roles and responsibilities of volunteers
Personal boundaries and coping strategies
A post training interview is held with the Circle coordinator when a decision is made as to the suitability of the potential volunteer. The meeting can be used to discuss practical issues as well as any more sensitive areas that the volunteer may wish to discuss.
The volunteer coordinator will match volunteers with a core member and other volunteers. There will be three meetings of the coordinator and volunteers focusing on group work issues and getting to know each other before the coordinator facilitates the first meeting with the core member.
